Russian Pole Darling Commences First Circus Contract – The Dark Side of Circus
Anastasia Skukhtorova has just commenced her first circus contract, performing a beautiful and challenging pole act for the Australian premiere of Le Noir. The production boasts world class acrobats, musicians, speciality acts and comedians – with former Cirque du Soleil artists and even Olympians among its international cast.
She was personally sought for the Pole Act by creators Tim Lawson and Simon Painter, who were especially impressed by her pole style which embodies both fragility and strength, tying in perfectly with the white styled innocence theme that opens the show.
The pole community first became aware of the petite blonde Russian, when Anastasia entered the competition circuit in 2009,
around six months after she first took up pole dance. It was with enough finesse and impact, that she was immediately awarded 2nd place in the Professional category. From there, the captivating artist began to collect titles like she was born to do it, including 2nd runner up in Pole World Cup 2011; 2nd runner up in Pole Art 2011 and most significantly, the Winner of 2nd Pole World Cup 2012/2013.
“I had always wanted to be a dancer of some kind, but it wasn’t until I was 18 that I finally decided to try something very special. I think I wanted to find something where I can be the best. Where I can achieve big goals and be one of a kind. Somehow me and my mom, we thought about the pole, and I talked to my friends and some of them said ’oh you need to be really strong’ and I wasn’t. But it didn’t stop me. Pole dancing sounded so cool. I wanted to try,” she recalls.
“I went to Moscow Pole School and just fell in love. I could not do anything but the beautiful transitions around the pole. And I really loved that with your body you can create such beautiful graceful lines. So my life has completely changed after that day.”
Now, Anastasia’s life has completely changed once again, having just begun her very first professional performance contract,
which will run for around three weeks. The show offers audiences nightly performances 6 days a week (with two shows on both Saturdays and Sundays) in both Brisbane and Perth. Already having toured Japan with Pink Puma as the pole performer, Le Noir is unique in that it seats audiences around a custom-built circular stage, giving a spectacular 360 degree view of the performance. It features incredible displays of balance, contortion, stamina, aerial artistry and death defying acts, such as the Colombian Wheel of Death and the Aerial Cradle, another first for Australian audiences.
Anastasia Skukhtorova is also the cover artist of the new international pole and aerial industry magazine, Volare – issue 2. Among dozens of other interesting articles and high quality photos, the glossy magazine features Anastasia’s impressive pole journey, plus a two page pull-out poster for your studio wall of Anastasia in her impressive Rainbow Marchenko.
