Bexita wrote a post the other day about how various roles in her life have helped her train to be a pole dancer and instructor … and that got me thinking about how pole dancing helps me with so many things in the roles I play during everyday life.
First and foremost, everyday life consists of a lot of manual labor of some sort…..who knew that pole dancing skills would be so useful outside the studio??
- Bringing groceries in from the car. Strong hands hold lots of bags! And strong arms can carry so. much. stuff. at one time. Multiple trips to the car? Not if I can help it!
- Carrying firewood. My claw-grip pole dancer’s hands can grab and carry decent-sized logs. Crackling fire, here I come!
- Walking the dogs. When they see squirrels/other dogs/errant blades of grass and forget their manners, my strong upper body can get them back into check, and my strong core allows me to keep my balance. Those dogs aren’t dragging this chickie off her feet, no way no how!
- Opening jars with stuck lids. ‘Nuff said
- Whisking. Eggs, whipped cream, salad dressings … strong biceps make them a snap. 🙂
- Gardening. I can turn soil, pound fenceposts, and dig until the cows come home. Then I can turn around and do it all over again the next day.
- Moving furniture. Lifting and scooting of all sorts. Being able to balance a couch on my thighs while simultaneously turning it sideways so it fits through a door, and then hefting it over my head to get the right angle for it to fit easier … think I would have been able to do that before I developed a high pain tolerance and strong arms? Me either.
- Getting something from the top shelf of a cabinet. I can balance myself on a counter, pushing up with on one hand and resting against a thigh while reaching wayyyyyyy up with the opposite hand, and suddenly this 5’3″ woman can reach pretty much anywhere!
