I wanted to give you an example of how these should go. And yeah, I want you to know how, when and why I started UPA. So, here goes. In 2007 I had this feeling about pole dancing. It felt like we were all on the edge of something big happening. Miss Pole Dance Australia is what gave me that feeling. I realized that there was nothing like that in the US, so I dreamt up an event and we executed it on July 13, 2008. It was called Pole Star Invitational and it was a spectacular mess. It was poorly run, but it was so exciting. There was so much energy in that room. Long story short, we never did it again. I felt a postpartum type depression after it was over. After three months of sulking, I dreamt up UPA. I realized, again, there was nothing like UPA. You see, the way I decide to do something is if no one else is doing it.
UPA’s original purpose was the bridge the gap between mainstream media and pole dance media. We were meant to inform the world of how pole was changing. There were so many ups and downs between 2009 and now. One of the things that has been so meaningful to me is the relationships I’ve formed along the way. Even the ones that didn’t work out. I’m forever grateful to those that dedicated their time to UPA over the years. But when things got hard, like really hard, I almost quit. Quitting UPA was something I swore I would never do. But the feeling of loneliness and exhaustion was consuming me. I reached out to several people to sell it. No one wanted to take it on.
Fortunately, there were some other big players in the industry that came to me and asked me what it would take for me to stay. They had meetings with me and offered their help and support. I decided to keep UPA running. I knew I had to pivot though, but not sure how. So, here we are. Just in the last month or so, I’ve decided that UPA’s purpose now is to be a consulting and marketing company for the pole dance community and industry. So, we are still informing people, just with a focus on YOU. We want you to know who’s doing what, (hence this story section) what brands you should pay attention to and gain knowledge on how to expand your pole dance journey.
These days I feel much happier. Lighter. I feel like this is the right track! I want to know how you feel, what you think. Good or bad! Please feel free to email me at any time. (Use the contact form in the main menu)
I just love this community so much, and it’s a privilege to serve you in this way!
All the best forever and ever,
