The pole community is mourning the loss of Canadian pole dancer Layla Duvay who passed away July 19, 2014 at the Stedman Community Hospice in Ontario after an ongoing battle with brain cancer. Layla was born January 3, 1962. She taught English for a living. She was an avid pole dancer who utilized her bold personality in captivating and entertaining performances. Layla embraced the sexy side of pole dancing and was known to have an affinity for shoes. She traveled throughout North America to meet other fans and train with some of her favorite pole dancers. She was known for her big heart and welcoming all in the pole community. Many pole dancers offered their condolences via Facebook on Sunday: You always make me laugh and you always make me think and you always make me proud to know you and proud to be me. You came to so many classes of mine, but I was ALWAYS the student. You are my mentor. And you will forever be the voice of fierceness and bravery I hear in my head when I need it most. My Brilliant Lioness.  – Michelle Mynx You are one of the most influential people i have ever met in my life and will always be on my mind and in my actions. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. – Alethea Austin
