Blue, Virgin’s Ball by Alex Thompson

Sometimes a song hits the air waves and pole dancers across the world can’t help, but stop what they are doing, grab the nearest pole (or pole-like structure) and dance! Its great when you discover a song that moves you … however that likely means hundreds of other polers feel the same way.

Now before we go any farther, I think you should dance to whatever the hell you want, whenever the hell you want to, BUT if you are planning to compete or perform for others then you want to think about your audience and how they are going to feel listening to a song they’ve heard a million times before. To get you ahead of the curve I’ve put together (with help from fellow polers, thanks guys!) my predictions for the most overused pole songs of 2015! Steer clear of these song or make sure to kill it if you are going to perform to these popular tunes:

1. “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars

Full disclosure: I am thoroughly obsessed with this song! The beat, the funk, it’s all there! This is a song you can’t help move to which is why you are going to see a million polers in 2015 dancing to it as well.

2. “Take Me to Church” by Hozier

Technically this song came out at the end of 2013, but it took awhile for the world to notice. Since about mid-2014 this song has been building more and more momentum in the pole community. Don’t get me wrong, I get it, I love this song and have actually performed to it myself (shhhh!). It’s dark, moody, and dreamy all at once, but I’m pretty sure every poler in the world has danced to this song at least once.
3. & 4. “Chandlier” & “Elastic Heart” by Sia

If the song didn’t get you then the music video sure as hell did! Again a fantastic song, but the iconic look and choreo from the video has been copied more times than I can count. If you are going to pull off “Chandelier”you have to attack it with your A-Game or your performance will be lost in the platinum blond crowd.

“Elastic Heart” has a similar feel and visual look to “Chandelier” which is why I am predicting it is going to become the go-to song for those who want to perform to “Chandelier”, but feel the song is overplayed.

5. “The Hanging Tree” Rebel Remix

Pole dancers loooove a good remix and this one is the perfect mix of eerie vocals, danceable beat, and finger snaps that you just know would be perfect to choreograph to. Remixes are usually a great choice when you are looking for a unique song to dance to, but in this case it’s connection to “The Hunger Games” means everyone has heard it a million times before.

6. “D.D.” Remix by The Weeknd

Combine a Micheal Jackson remix with every polers favorite, “The Weeknd” and you’ve got a pole dance classic. This song has been slowly building momentum in community over the past year (just search Youtube and you’ll find a ton of dance videos to the song) and I have a feeling it is going to hit maximum saturation in 2015.

7. – 10.  Anything off the 50 Shades of Grey Soundtrack

From what I’ve heard the soundtrack is the best thing about the 50 Shades of Grey movie and it’s no surprise why! It is jam packed with sexy songs to swing on a pole to, but the popularity of the movie means that everyones going to dancing to it too. While it is probably best to stay away from the soundtrack completely if you want a unique song choice, these four are sure to be the most played out:

7. “Love Me Like You Do” by Ellie Goulding
8. “I’m On Fire” by AWOLNATION
9. “Crazy in Love” Remix by Beyonce

10. “Earned It” by The Weeknd

Honorable Mentions:
“Desire” by Meg Myer
“All About That Bass” Megan Trainor
 “I Don’t Mind” Usher ft. Juicy J

*Thanks to Stephanie L., Elle L, Scarlet FitFatale, Elisa, Shanda, Irene, and Kathy for their input!*

What songs did I miss? What songs will you be performing to anyways?
